ALPINE – The Big Bend Area Law Enforcement Officers Association (BBALEOA) will be honoring officers and agents who have died in the line of duty in West Texas, and those from the area. The event will commence at 10am on Wednesday, May 30, on the campus of Sul Ross State University.
This year, Border Patrol Agent Isaac Morales and Border Patrol Agent Rogelio Martinez, who both died in the line of duty in 2017 will be added to the memorial. Historical additions of Big Spring Police Department Officer Elijah James Cass, Presidio County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Simon L. De Leon and Southern Pacific Railroad Police Department Detective John L. Elsberry will also be paid tribute and added to the memorial.
To learn more about these and other fallen officers, you can visit the “Officer Down” Memorial Page at www.odmp.org and the Big Bend Area Law Enforcement Officers Association Facebook page.
The ceremony will include a reading of the names added to the memorial this year. There will be a presentation of colors, a three-volley salute, the playing of taps and a flag-folding ceremony. This year’s color and honor guards are made up of officers from several area law enforcement agencies. The Midland County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol will feature the traditional rider-less horse.
This year’s Master of Ceremonies will be Big Bend Sector Chief Patrol Agent Robert L. Boatright.
The public are encouraged to attend the ceremony to honor the fallen and support this year’s memorial ceremony for local law enforcement personnel.
