BETO fundraises over $1 million in one weekend

The release of three ads last week by U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz took aim at his Democratic opponent, Rep. Beto O’Rourke, attacking the congressman for his stances on marijuana legalization and his openness to the abolishment of ICE. On Fri. Aug. 3, O’Rourke and his campaign challenged his supporters to raise $1 million over the course of the weekend. By the morning of Mon. Aug. 6 they raised $1.25 million through the support of more than 30,000 donations. A Quinnipiac poll dated Aug. 1, had Sen. Ted Cruz ahead of Rep. O’Rourke by 6 points. At the end of May, Quinnipiac released a poll that showed Cruz with an 11-point lead. In two months, Cruz’s lead has decreased by 5 points. The first debate between both candidates is scheduled for Aug. 31 in Dallas.
