PRESIDIO – Saying it was a “really, really hard decision to make,” Presidio City Council member Isela Nuñez has tendered her resignation as an elected representative of the residents of Presidio.

“I’ve missed so many meetings and it’s not fair to the people whom I serve,” she said Wednesday.

The general manager for Pro Custom Brokers in Presidio, Nuñez said she’s working on a growth plan for the business, and that the brokerage is doing well, it’s just taking more time.

“We’ll be crossing cattle sometimes at night” and her work and public service are also affecting her personal time, she said. “And there’s always new challenges and new policies to keep up with.”

The brokerage headquarters is in El Paso, with other offices at Santa Teresa and Columbus, New Mexico.

Nuñez has been a city council member since 2014 and previously served on the Presidio County Appraisal District board of directors, which often meets in Marfa in addition to Presidio.

The council has yet to meet to accept her resignation. Her term on council is up for election in May anyway.

The council could make an appointment to the vacancy in the coming weeks or leave it open until the Saturday, May 4 election.

The candidate filing window opened on Wednesday, and the deadline is 5pm on Friday, February 15. Candidate applications are available at City Hall.

“I really loved the people I served,” Nuñez said, “This was just a tough decision I had to make.”
