JEFF DAVIS COUNTY – A storied West Texas ranch is up for grabs — one of several spreads in Far West Texas that are on the market, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The Gearhart Ranch near Fort Davis was founded in 1890 and has more than 9,150 acres.
The sprawling cattle ranch has everything from savanna grasslands to 6,800-foot-tall peaks and ridges.
The property is near Mount Livermore — one of Texas’ tallest landmarks — and McDonald Observatory.
The main ranch house has three bedrooms and three bathrooms, and there is a three-bedroom foreman’s house with large adobe walls.
“This is the authentic yet stunning form of West Texas highland mountain ranches,” said listing agent Tyler Jacobs of Hall & Hall. “Endless skies, beautiful sunsets, dark nights with bright stars and the majestic Milky Way, the Davis Mountains. Far West Texas.
“This is everything inside the scenic loop going up to the highest elevation.”
With a price tag of $30,457,953, the Gearhart is one of three big properties on the market in the Trans Pecos region of Far West Texas.
The 37,000-acre KC7 Ranch near Interstate 10 in the foothills of the Davis Mountains just received a bid of $32.5 million from El Paso businessman and billionaire Paul Foster.
And the 70,000-acre Lely Ranch near Presidio and Big Bend State Park is also for sale. The Presidio County property has been owned by a foreign dairy magnate since the 1960s. Dallas-based Icon Global is marketing both the KC7 and Lely ranches.
