Updates from week three of Presidio City and ISD Elections

PRESIDIO, BREWSTER counties – The candidate filing window remains open for the Saturday, May 4 city council and school board elections across the area.

Candidates have until 5pm Friday, February 15 to sign up for office.

The posts of Mayor John Ferguson and council members Isela Nuñez and Victor Hernandez are up for election this year, and it has been confirmed that Mayor Ferguson has picked up an application packet for re-election.

Nuñez resigned from the council two weeks ago, leaving that seat open as well.

At the time of publication, it was unclear whether the council would appoint someone to fill the vacant post. Both mayoral and council terms are held for two years, and the top two vote-getters in the council race, who are elected at large, will take office.

As of yesterday, it was confirmed that no one had filed an application process, either for election or re-election. School board President Ethel Barriga and fellow trustees Yvonne Spencer, Fidel Baeza and Hugo Ramos are up for re-election this year.
