Presidio native Margarita “Margie” Barriga Manriquez, 67, passed away from this life on February 19, 2019 in El Paso
Margie was born May 5, 1951, daughter of Amelia Bustamante Barriga and Ramon “Brite” Barriga of Presidio.
She was a well-known pillar of the Presidio community, taught Catechism for several years, was a Girl Scout leader, worked as a homemaking educator for Presidio High School for many years. Margarita’s charitable work also included creating and directing parades for the Santa Teresa Catholic Church Anniversary. Margarita made fashion shows, including dress and costumes enhancing the culture in our wonderful town’s community. She was strong woman of Catholic faith.
She was a devoted wife to her “Precious” husband of 52 years, Luis Manriquez, and a devoted mother to her daughter Cindy, granddaughters Ashley and Kasmine Diaz, who all survive her. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Antonieta Sotelo from Bay Town, Adam Barriga from Bay Town; Senaida Sanchez from El Paso; Rosa Mendoza from Odessa, Lupe and Cathy Barriga from Kermit, and Alonso Barriga from Midland.
Arrangements are Entrusted to Martinez Funeral Home of Odessa, Texas
Visitation was Sunday February 24, with a Rosary recited.
Mass was celebrated Monday, February 25 at Santa Teresa Catholic Church with Father Mike Alcuino officiating. Burial followed at Desert Hills Cemetery in Presidio.
