SkillsUSA is a student organization serving high school, college and middle school students and professional members enrolled in training programs in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.
Presidio High School students traveled to San Angelo on February 21-23 to compete in District 2, Skills USA Fashion Design, Welding Furniture and a Welding Onsite and Skills Test.
The Fashion Design team, taught by Mrs. Dominguez, presented a job exhibit of a quilt created from recycled material and scraps. This project was created by PHS students Evelyn Lozano and Keyla Peña. Their project received a blue ribbon and will be advancing to state.
In the Welded Furniture category, outdoor game tables for our elementary playground were built. The following students put in time and talent into the tables and project folders: Xavier Santos, Kevin Jaquez, Alexandra Arroyo, Evelyn Lozano, Jonathan Sanchez, Mayra Saucedo, Yahir Bail-on, Irvin Rey, Javier Vazquez, Jesus Sanchez, Raul Mendoza and Mitzy Carrasco. Their furniture earned a blue ribbon as well and will be advancing to state.
For the first time students competed on site in welding and took a 50 question test. The participants were Xavier Santos, Yahir Bailon, Irvin Rey, Raul Mendoza, Mayra Saucedo, Javier Vasquez, and Evelyn Lozano. Their results are not yet in. State Skills USA competition will be in Corpus Christi, April 4-7, 2019.
