PRESIDIO COUNTY – A countywide burn ban was adopted by the Presidio County Commissioners’ Court meeting on Wednesday. It’s for 90 days and will be reviewed at that time. “As you know, fire season is upon us,” said County Judge Cinderela Guevara, “so it’s important for us to bring back this burn ban and it will probably continue going indefinitely. We’ve been having quite a bit of fires especially south.” Presidio and Ojinaga firefighters knocked down a raging wildfire last week just east of the city of Presidio. Marfa firefighters arrived to help. “Conditions are not that critical, but we are coming up on fire season and it is pretty dry and unless we get rain, conditions will only get worse,” said county Emergency Management Coordinator Gary Mitschke. “Spring, dry, lightning season is coming up. The fires down in Presidio, all originated in Mexico, but I think it’s a good idea we start controlling who does what now, because of conditions.”
