PRESIDIO – Local law enforcement is searching for a Presidio woman and her four-year-old daughter who were last seen this weekend in Marfa.

Zorayma Lackey and her daughter Lena were last seen on Sunday, March 31, at Jett’s Grill in the Hotel Paisano. The family hasn’t been unable to locate or make contact with them. Her phone is currently disconnected. Presidio County Chief Deputy Joel Nuñez told the Big Bend Sentinel/Presidio International that his office initially received a call for a welfare check, requesting that an officer stops by Lackey’s house and make sure everything’s okay. Lackey wasn’t there.

Lackey’s mom then filed an official missing person’s report Tuesday morning. This expanded the search to other areas and agencies statewide.

Nuñez said they are in the beginning stages of the search for Lackey and her daughter and are going through all the resources to see if anyone has seen them. Lackey is on leave as a teacher at Lucy Rede Franco Middle School, and she has a son in Presidio, so they are checking if she contacts him or other family members.

Lackey is also known to travel quite often which is one thing that is keeping them at ease, said Nuñez.

“We know she has a tendency” to travel, said Nuñez.

One of Nuñez’s major concerns is the three-year-old daughter though.

“We want to make sure that she calls home and that’s she’s ok,” said Nuñez.

He said that they heard that Lackey was heading to Boquillas del Carmen in Coahuila, Mexico through Big Bend National Park, so deputies are searching for her truck there. He noted that if she’s in the park, there are places with no cell phone service.

Lackey was last seen driving a 2015 silver Ford F150 with the license plate GHY 7971.
