BALMORHEA – The pool at Balmorhea State Park is closed again.
The park’s Facebook page said that the gate that drains the pool became inoperable in the open position during the preparations for the annual pool cleaning. This poses a danger to the swimmers and the divers, so the pool will be closed until the gate is repaired.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) updated last week that the staff is coordinating the installation of a large metal plate over the water release gate, which would ensure the safety of swimmers and divers and enable the reopening of the pool. It is not known how long it would take to install the plate though.
The pool reopened on March 1 after it was closed last summer to address the structural damage that was found during the annual pool cleaning last spring.
