Surrounded by his beloved family, Conrado “Lalo” Vasquez Almance Sr. of Marfa rode off into the glorious West Texas sunset to join the heavenly round up. He was 89.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10am today, Thursday, June 6th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marfa with Father John Paul Madanu serving as Funeral Celebrant. Burial will be in Merced Cemetery. Praying of the Most Holy Rosary was held the evening of Wednesday, June 5th at the church.
Mr. Almance was born November 26th, 1929 to Jesus Almance and Genoveva (Vasquez) Almance in Ruidosa, south Presidio County. He married the love of his life Francisca (Villanueva) Almance on May 15th, 1965, and they enjoyed 54 years of marital bliss.
Up until a year and a half ago, Mr. Almance worked as a ranch foreman for Mitchell Cattle Company and Aufdengarten Cattle Company. He was an honest, ethical hardworking person, who would always provide for his family, and would never back down from a challenge. He would never say a bad word about anyone. He enjoyed watching rodeos, cattle roping, and spending time with his beloved grandchildren, as well as watching horse races.
Those preceding Mr. Almance in death are his parents, and his brothers Jesus Almance and Pedro Almance.
Those left to honor and cherish the beloved memory of Mr. Almance are his wife of 54 years, Francisca (Villanueva) Almance of Marfa; a daughter, Carolina A. Cataño and husband Rogelio of Marfa; a son, Conrado Almance Jr. of Arlington; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Cataño of Midland, Ed Ray Cataño of Midland, and Eliana Cataño of Marfa; his brothers, Enrique Almance of San Antonio, Apolinar Almance of Marfa, Sabino Almance of Presidio, and Salomon Almance of Odessa; and three special friends, Kiki Aguirre, Hayes Mitchell, and Ismael Medrano.
Those serving as pallbearers are Ed Ray Cataño, Juan Madrid, Pedro Almance, Auden Almance, Sabino Almance, Nathan Whatley, Joey Aguirre, and Ismael Medrano. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Elizabeth Cataño, Eliana Cataño, Eva Gibbs, Rogelio Cataño, Kiki Aguirre, Hayes Mitchell, and Emilio Vasquez.
