It is with profound sadness that the family of Carolina O. Brijalba announces the passing of their beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Carolina, 72, of Marfa, Texas, passed away Friday, August 25, 2023, in her home. Carolina was born August 3, 1951, to Salvador and Barbara Ortega in Pecos, Texas. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Alfredo Brijalba; sister and husband Louisa and Kermit Riley; two daughters, Lisa Martinez, and Jessica and Kenneth Evans; two granddaughters and their husbands, Roxanna and Alexander English, and Bianca and Jeremy Schwalk; two grandsons, Troy Taylor and Kaleb Evans; and seven great-grandchildren.
Carolina will remain in her family’s hearts as a reminder of strength, love and perseverance. She loved her friends and family fiercely and was an absolute warrior, enduring so much with so little complaint. Although her family will mourn her loss daily, they find peace that she will reunite with her beloved parents and siblings in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Visitation will be held at Alpine Memorial Funeral Home Chapel (209 W. Sul Ross Ave, Alpine, TX, 79830) on Wednesday, August 30, at 5 p.m. followed by the Rosary at 7 p.m. She will be returned to her hometown for her final resting place in Balmorhea, Texas. Mass will occur on Thursday, August 31, at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church (8666-8692 Co Rd 316, Balmorhea, TX, 79718). Graveside service will immediately follow at Balmorhea Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Fleenor, Salvador Ortega III, Johnny Lee Ortega, Jeremy Hughes, Leandro Ruiz and Richard Alicea. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ricky Ortega, Tommy Carrillo and Danny Carrillo.
