PRESIDIO — This weekend, Presidio is going all out for the Fourth of July with a pair of events on Saturday and Sunday nights. The actual fourth doesn’t fall on a weekend this year — but the City of Presidio Convention and Visitor Bureau has been working hard to line up two full nights of fun for the whole community just the same.
On Saturday, July 1, the Presidio International Dragstrip will light up with an extra festive evening of bracket racing. Gates open at 4 p.m., and spectators can attend for $10. Racers can enter for $75; helmets are required.
On Sunday, July 2, the party will move to Daly Park — all are invited for a free fun family event culminating in a fireworks display at 9 p.m., provided by a donation from Ariel Lara. There will be live music in the bandshell and a DJ later in the evening for folks who want to dance the night away.
Vendors will also be onsite offering everything from tripitas to gorditas — Project Homeleaf will be offering plants propagated from their downtown planter project and local farms will be providing fruit cups from their mid-summer harvests. The American Legion will be selling beer and wine.
Convention and Visitor Bureau President Arian Velázquez-Ornelas was excited about all the vendors who have signed up so far — and the generous donation of the fireworks. “We’re very excited we’re going to be able to do this, and we’re going to have a great show,” she said.
Vendors interested in signing up for the Sunday’s event can visit City Hall for more information and to apply for a permit. The Presidio International Dragstrip is located on FM 170 just west of town.
