The Big Bend Sentinel is a news publication that covers the people and the culture of our Far West Texas region. The Big Bend spans three counties: Presidio, Brewster, and Jeff Davis — a mountainous, high-desert area about the size of South Carolina.
We’re published by a new nonprofit organization, The Big Bend Reporting Project. Our goal is to provide reporting based on direct observation. Our newsroom is at 209½ W. El Paso Street in Marfa.
Founded in 1926, The Big Bend Sentinel is the Big Bend’s oldest print news source. Over the course of its century-long history, our writers broke the story of the border wall construction and tracked its now-stalled progress. Our reporting has exposed small town corruption, stopped a proposed nuclear dump site in Sierra Blanca, and freed a man from prison in Ojinaga.
