FORT DAVIS – Area residents took advantage of the opportunity at a meeting Monday to learn more about the planned “box” clinic expected for completion in April 2025 in Fort Davis County.
Judge Curtis Evans, a strong proponent of the project, said he was pleased by the turnout of residents and the insightful questions asked. The grant-funded clinic will provide telemedicine services, basic on-site lab tests, and access to medical residents and interns through Texas Tech and Texas A&M universities.
Dr. Billy Phillips of Texas Tech was on hand to answer questions, along with Curtis Donaldson and Carly McCord from Texas A&M. Danielle Gallo, who heads up a similar new clinic in Marathon also attended. “She’s offered so much help to us,” Evans said of Gallo. Area physicians James Luecke and Adrian Billings were also in attendance. Billings brought residents and interns from Texas Tech to the information session.
On Tuesday, during Jeff Davis County Commissioners Court, commissioners agreed to accept the clinic but did not vote to locate it on the proposed fire hall property. The clinic itself will be contained in a “box” structure, measuring only about eight feet by 40 feet, but county officials and the fire department want to review potential parking issues, especially during times when numerous firefighters and equipment are staged at the fire hall. Commissioners did express their willingness to locate the clinic on a county-owned property.
