MARFA — Marfa City council members voted on Thursday night to hire Andrea Walter as the town’s new City Manager.

Walter is from Corpus Christi and holds a master’s in public administration. She currently works as a business manager for an architectural firm.

She will be filling in for previous City Manager Mandy Roane, who resigned in September after four years in the role. City Secretary Kelly Perez has been filling in as the interim city manager and was also being considered for the job.

The appointment will be official when Walter signs a contract with the city — negotiations are ongoing. It is unclear when Walter will start.

When reached by The Big Bend Sentinel on Friday, Walter said she is looking forward to her new role and pending move to Marfa. “We have an opportunity to grow together and learn and make Marfa a spectacular place,” Walter said.

“I visited Marfa on a road trip with my mom,” she added. “I fell in love with West Texas. And I told my mom, ‘I’m going to end up here.’”

Mayor Manny Baeza did not respond to a request for comment on Walter’s hiring by press time.
