MARFA — The organizers of Pride Marfa are seeking sponsors for the 2025 festival, set to take place at various venues across town from Thursday, June 12, to Sunday, June 15.

The annual celebration of the LGBTQ+ community has taken place locally since 2022, coinciding with similar Pride events across the country. Organizing this year are volunteers Prepney, in addition to Fatima Anaza, Logan Smith, Haley Levin and Julio Baeza.

Plans for the weekend are still coming together, but include queer-focused film screenings, dance parties and DJ sets, a family-friendly daytime event and a queer tea party. Several galleries plan to host concurrent open viewing and special programming with an emphasis on queer artists’ representation. Confirmed venues are Planet Marfa, The Pool at Hotel Saint George and Bitter Sugar.

Prepney said organizers are seeking sponsors for this year’s Pride Marfa to help support festival operations, housing, food for performers and more. This year organizers are looking to expand event offerings beyond just nightlife, Prepney said, and offer more options for sober individuals.

“Pride 2024 lacked a robust representation of what it means to be queer, and I would like for this year’s pride to take that into account,” Prepney said. “Queerness is robust and perhaps even infinite. I want to romanticize this queer life I’m living, and Pride Marfa 2025 is my bid to make it as romantic as possible.”

Lawrence Johnson, owner of Pure For Men and sponsor of Pride Marfa since its start, said the observance of Pride month in a small town like Marfa is significant, especially in the current divided political climate.

“Pride Marfa is easily one of the most significant and fulfilling events I’ve ever had the pleasure of taking part in,” Johnson said. “At a time where people’s differences and divisions take center stage, Pride Marfa brings the community together in celebration of universal themes like love. It’s precisely the medicine we all need, and it’s an honor to have had a front row seat to its delivery. Pride is for everyone.”
