Marfa

On October 23, the Marfa City Council approved grants to local organizations from revenue generated by hotel occupancy taxes (HOT). Nonprofits apply for the grants twice a year—usually for events, and they can also apply for accompanying money to advertise the events.

The latest grants went to six organizations and eight events: Marfa 100 ($5,000/$3,500 advertising); Marfa Museum ($10,000/$3,500 advertising); Chinati Weekend ($10,000/$3,500 advertising); Chinati Lectures ($2,500/$3,500 advertising); MAINTENANT ($6,000/$3,500 advertising); Club Nowhere event #1 ($2,500); Club Nowhere event #2 ($2,500); Meet Me in Marfa ($4,000).

HOT tax revenue—generated by taxes on hotel rooms and short-term rentals—can only be used for programs that promote the city and attract tourism.
