FAR WEST TEXAS – The presidential administration’s assault on immigrants and their families has many folks feeling helpless. Don’t. Peacefully protest, as many did last week in Tornillo. Write to the White House, U.S. Rep. Will Hurd, and Texas U.S. senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz. Tell them you oppose the zero-tolerance policy and the separation of children and their families at our southern border with Mexico. Vote in November. And make a donation to these El Paso organizations that help the homeless, the immigrants, and their families:
Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center
Las Americas is a 30-year-old, homegrown, non-profit dedicated to serving the legal needs of low income immigrants, including refugees, victims of crime, and families seeking reunification. Las Americas lawyers and staff are committed to providing legal representation to those who otherwise would not be able to afford it. Las Americas believes that the American Dream should not be for sale but should be accessible to all deserving people, regardless of their countries of origin and their financial standing. Since 1987, Las Americas, which is certified by the Board of Immigration Appeals, has provided representation to more than 12,000 low-income immigrants in El Paso. Las Americas’ clients are from all over the world. The El Paso port of entry sees the second highest number of people crossing into the United States by land, second only to San Diego. El Paso is also a high-traffic corridor for illegal crossings. Immigrants from all around the world end up in El Paso.

We are an 18-year-old organization that fights for human rights. We recently held our third #HugsNotWalls event, where almost 400 families were reunited in the middle of the Rio Grande. The Salvation Army Red Shield Family Center
Providing shelter for families, the homeless, the marginalized in our society. A soup kitchen serves meals seven days a week to all at 6pm. It’s free. They accept monetary donations as well as clothing for men, women and children, and educational resources like activity books and colors, as well.
