MARFA – Judith Parsons, professor emeritus of history at Sul Ross University, will present a program on Presidio County cattleman and businessman W.B. Mitchell on Saturday, September 8 at 4pm at the Saint George Hall in Marfa.
Parsons has spent many months researching the papers of W. B. Mitchell and Sons donated by the Mitchell family to the Archives of the Big Bend. Her presentation will include an account Mitchell wrote about his first trip to Big Bend country in the summer of 1885 at the age of 15.
Accompanying his father, the two ventured south of Marfa, along the way visiting the silver mines of Shafter and also meeting an even earlier Presidio County cattleman and legend, Milton Faver.
The program is sponsored by the Marfa and Presidio County Museum Association as part of its guest speaker series. Everyone is cordially invited to attend this free event. A question and answer period will follow the presentation, and light refreshments will be served.
