FORT DAVIS — The Veterans History Project of the Library of Congress American Folklife Center is coming to town on Sept. 26 to collect stories from veterans and to train volunteers.

The project collects, preserves, and makes accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war.

The event will be from 2-5pm Wednesday, September 26, at the Jeff Davis County Library.

The project collects and preserves the firsthand interviews and narra – tives of United States military veterans from World War I through the present.

In addition to audio- and video-recorded oral history interviews, the project accepts memoirs and collections of original photographs, letters, diaries, maps, and other historical documents from veterans who served in the US armed services from World War I through the present.

The project makes accessible the materials that comprise this important national archive, which contains submissions from every state, and includes the US territories.
