Alpine police officer fired after DWI charge

ALPINE – Alpine police officer Ismael Hernandez has been fired, reportedly after being charged with driving while intoxicated after an automobile accident over the weekend. Chief Russell Scown said only that Hernandez “no longer works for me.” He would not comment further because he said it was a “personnel decision.” Hernandez reportedly was not on duty at the time of the accident Sunday near the county courthouse. He has posted bond and been released.
