MARFA — Marfa Open 2019 is returning this week with another round of events and art pieces.
First, on Thursday, October 3, at 7 p.m., New York artists Geometric Primitive debut their project “Oscillozoic” at NEWRUINS behind the old bank.
The project uses lasers, sound and haze to transform a cement structure into what organizers describe as a “ritual site.” It runs every night from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. through Sunday, October 6.
Then, on Friday, October 4, the BAD Exhibit (curated by Marfa’s JD Garcia) opens at Marfa Open House behind Dairy Queen. The show is mixed-medium and features art by Natalie Melendez, Tyler Spurgin, Joey Peapod, Maggie McCutcheon and Emily Esperanza.
The BAD Exhibit will also have a reception with local musicians BORG and Kamikaze Rabbit on Saturday, October 5, at 8 p.m. (Saturday also happens to be JD’s birthday.) The BAD Exhibit will be open through the weekend.
Marfa Open 2019 will return again next week with Daisy Stackpole’s “Sinner Sinner Chicken Dinner” on Wednesday, October 9, at 7 p.m. inside the Marfa Open House’s main gallery. The piece features costumes and, yes, a real-life feast of fried chicken.
