TERLINGUA — A boutique Terlingua hotel got a shout-out last week from a national travel magazine.
Willow House, a Terlingua hotel, was featured in the “It List” from Travel + Leisure magazine of the best new hotels in the world. The unranked list, which features 72 hotels from the United States and abroad, was released in late February.
The hotel, which includes 12 casitas on almost 300 acres of land, debuted last spring. And it’s already earned plaudits from publications like Architectural Digest, which last year called the hotel’s design “thoughtfully conceived” and said it was a “homage to Terlingua’s natural beauty.”
Travel + Leisure was similarly effusive. They compared the architecture to “a Donald Judd installation” and said the beds were “cloudlike.”
“Deep in West Texas, first-time hotelier Lauren Werner has made her mark with Willow House,” the magazine stated. “The casitas, which put a Texan spin on understated Scandi style, are a treat to come home to.”
Reached for comment, Werner was excited about the listing. She called it unexpected but said she was “extremely grateful” that Travel + Leisure sought out and included “small, independently-owned and run hospitality concepts like ours.”
“Creating Willow House has brought me immense joy and I am lucky enough to witness the joy it brings to others on a daily basis,” she said. “This magical piece of land and the love surrounding this place inspires openness, community and relaxation from the moment guests arrive.”
