ALPINE — Highway 67 transformed into a landing strip last Friday morning, when a pilot set course for an emergency stop on the rural road between Fort Stockton and Alpine.
The single engine Cessna was running out of fuel, and the pilot determined an emergency landing was necessary. The plane touched down 22 miles north of Alpine, and Brewster County sheriff deputies and Department of Public Safety state troopers came together to secure the area, making sure the roadway was safe for drivers and the plane.
The emergency landing was a success, with no damage to the aircraft. After a quick trip to get fuel at the Alpine-Casparis Municipal Airport, the Cessna was refueled, and the pilot took off to the skies once more.
