Big Bend Citizens Alliance distributes final COVID relief checks

TERLINGUA — The Big Bend COVID-19 Pandemic Relief Fund will be sending out its final checks this month.

The fund was established in March 2020 to help Brewster County residents deal with hardships caused by the pandemic. Volunteers from Alpine and Terlingua started the fund through Big Bend Citizens Alliance — a Terlingua-based nonprofit organization.

It has since awarded over $67,000 to help residents and nonprofits cover costs for housing and transportation, medical expenses, utilities, food, childcare needs and animal feed.

As the BBCA closed out the fund, they extended their sincerest gratitude to the volunteers, organizations and private individuals who generously donated their time and money. “This has been an outstanding show of community support and we couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you,” the organization’s officials said.
