MARFA — All creatures great and small, with fur, fins, feathers or scales are invited to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Sunday, October 4 from 4 to 5 p.m. for a contact-free, drive-by Blessing of the Animals.
The event celebrates St. Francis of Assisi – patron saint of animals – who was born in 1182 and died in 1226. Legends say that Francis could communicate with animals, and the blessing is a sign of humility and respect, a reminder that humans are not the center of everything.
Everyone is invited. If your animals cannot ride along with you, please bring a picture of your pet. The Rev. Michael Wallens will bless each animal in your vehicle. There will be plenty of treats for pets and their people.
St. Paul’s Episcopal is the stone church just north of the Presidio County Courthouse in Marfa.
