FORT DAVIS — The Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce is hosting “Miracle on State Street,” a live radio “drive-in and tune-in” event Monday, December 7, at 6 p.m., followed by lighting of the courthouse at 7:30 p.m.
The radio show will be hosted by local DJ Robert Alvarez and begins at 6 p.m. It will feature local musicians Stephen Bright and Bill and April Armstrong. The radio show will air on channel 104.7. In addition to live music, the Chamber of Commerce will honor the nominees for Volunteer of the Year and announce recipients of the 2020 Volunteer of the Year and 2020 Citizen of the Year.
“The community is invited to park at the Jeff Davis County Courthouse and tune into radio station 104.7 to hear the broadcast,” says Chamber Director Melissa Henderson. “Or if the weather is nice, pull up a lawn chair or a tailgate. We just ask that everyone please practice safe measures like social distancing and mask wearing.”
This year’s event is the first of its kind in Fort Davis and takes the place of the traditional holiday celebration, Frontier Christmas. The Chamber of Commerce created the event in response to rising coronavirus cases in the region.
Santa stopped by the Fort Davis National Historic Site earlier this month to pre-record messages to the region’s kids. The messages will air via social media on the Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook and on Instagram. “Santa said to make sure that the kiddos know that he’s still going to be delivering presents to homes this Christmas Eve!” said Henderson.
The Chamber will also be handing out take-home gingerbread house kits to kids in attendance.
