Filing period open for City of Marfa candidates

MARFA — Marfa is having a general election on May 1, and the filing period for hopeful officeholders opened last week. Candidates have until Friday, February 12, to file.

Three positions are open, including for mayor and for two at-large city council seats. By press time on Wednesday, council members Irma Salgado and Raul Lara and both filed for reelection. Mayor Manny Baeza has not yet filed for reelection.

Anyone interested in filing for city office can pick up an application in-person at Marfa City Hall or online at Applications can be dropped off in-person at city hall, emailed to or mailed to the city at P.O. Box 787, Marfa, TX 79843.
