ALPINE — Artwalk, the multi-day event hosted by Gallery Night, Inc. to showcase artists in Alpine, has once again rescheduled its 27th iteration of the event, moving it to November 19 and 20, 2021.
The annual art event draws thousands of visitors to the Alpine art scene, and with coronavirus still impacting the region and the country at large, the board hopes the fall dates will mean the event happens once the pandemic has been abated enough to gather crowds in public once more.
The group initially postponed the fall 2020 event to spring 2021 after reviewing information on the rising cases of COVID-19 that were being reported in El Paso and Midland/Odessa last October. This second postponement comes as cases are declining in Texas, but still sit near the peak of the state’s first wave in July, with nearly 10,000 new cases reported per day.
“The Board felt like it is too risky to invite over 9,000 attendees to come to Alpine during our event,” they wrote in a press release last fall. “Our main concern is the health of our community.”
While the event has been pushed to a year later than planned, the November 2021 event’s honored artist is still planned to be Tim Roberts, the Fort Davis resident, archaeologist and artist.
In a press release shared by Keri Blackman, the founder and executive director of the event, the organization wrote, “With a brighter future on the horizon, we are looking forward to celebrating the arts again with you.”
