Presidio students earn medals at academic UIL competition

Presidio’s UIL Academic team won a variety of awards in Tornillo last weekend. TORNILLO — Presidio High School students traveled to Tornillo, Texas, on Saturday, March 27, to compete in the District Academic UIL competition. Students competed in Current Issues and Events, Computer Applications, Copy Editing, Accounting, Science, Editorial Writing, Headline Writing, Mathematics and Number Sense.

Yahir Brito placed second in Current Issues and Events and Editorial Writing. He is an alternate in Science, as he was second top scorer in Chemistry.

Alejandra Valles placed first in Computer Applications, second in Accounting, and is part of the second-place Mathematics team and also part of the first-place Accounting team.

Darinka Orona placed fourth in Computer Applications, first in Accounting, is part of the second-place Mathematics team, the second-place Number Sense team, and the first-place Accounting team.

Ramon Rodriguez placed second in Copy Editing, second in Headline Writing, and is part of the second place Number Sense team.

Jose Armendariz placed third in Accounting and is part of the first-place Accounting team.

Liz Saenz placed third in Science.

Arian Perez is the second top scorer in Biology.

Briseida Rubio is top scorer in Chemistry.

Kenia Hernandez is part of the second-place Mathematics team and the second-place Number Sense team.

Irlanda Sotelo is part of the second-place Mathematics team and the second-place Number Sense team.

The school congratulated teachers and the participants who will be advancing to Regionals on April 16 and 17.
