ALPINE — The first-ever Spirits of the West Wine and Beef Festival, which celebrates the area’s unique culinary offerings, will be held this weekend, May 27 through May 29, in downtown Alpine on 6th Street between Holland and Avenue E.

The new event seeks to honor the Big Bend region’s long-time tradition of cattle ranching by offering tastings and educational events from local beef production companies. Local wineries, distilleries and other makers from the area have joined the event to offer thoughtful pairings.

The festival consists of a variety of events, from a VIP night and a sommelier class to a beef workshop hosted by Marfa Meats, and 5k fun run. Tickets range from $25 to $75. A two-day general admission wristband to attend the street festival, which will feature booths by local artists as well as various tastings and live music, is $25. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The weekend’s musical guests include Charles Maxwell, Mariachi Santa Cruz, Swifts, and Doug Moreland & Friends, among others.

Participating local companies include Chateau Wright, Marfa Spirit Co., Chisos Brewing, Alpine Wine, Brick Vault Brewery & Barbecue, and Slate Theory Winery, among others. Imagined by the nonprofit Artwalk, which hosts an annual event each fall that celebrates the area’s artists and makers and promotes Alpine tourism, Spirits of the West’s proceeds will support Alpine and Big Bend regional art education scholarships and community art projects.
