MARFA — The International Women’s Foundation and the Weber Furlong Art Foundation are presenting an art show featuring the work of Alpine resident J Samuel Davis at Building 98, opening Saturday, January 7, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The exhibition demonstrates an eclectic mix of works, colors and interests. The show closes on January 31. Building 98 is located at 705 Bonnie Street near the Chinati Foundation in Marfa.

After attending West Point Military Academy, Davis received his bachelor’s degree from Sul Ross State University and his law degree from Southern Methodist University. He then practiced law in the Midland and Big Bend communities. His father, Dr. Sam Davis, a retired Sul Ross State University professor, long encouraged J’s artistry and framed most of the pieces in the Marfa show.

J Davis showed a natural artistic talent at an early age. His interest in drawing evolved into painting, experimenting with most artistic styles and mediums. J is well known in Alpine and is a friend to many. One need not look far in Alpine and the surrounding area to find one of his works.
