PRESIDIO — Last Wednesday, Presidio High School held a special ceremony to honor three new inductees. Ilianna Morales, Luis Sanchez and Karla Valdivia were invited to join the prestigious organization which focuses on academic excellence and community service.

Over one million students around the world are members of the National Honors Society. To become a member, students must adhere to the “four pillars”: service, character, scholarship and citizenship.

The average NHS chapter completes a collective 1,000 hours of community service, and Presidio’s members have been doing their part by participating in initiatives like volunteering at the recycling center and planting trees around town.

Presidio High School’s chapter members include Mayte Flotte, Robert Loya and Clarisa Villagran. Ramon Rodriguez serves as chapter president and Valerie Armendariz as the vice president. Natalia Sanchez is the secretary and Daisy Flores is the treasurer. The student’s faculty advisor is Angelica Aguilar.
