MARFA — This Sunday, April 9, the Marfa Chamber of Commerce will host an Easter egg hunt from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Coffield Park.
The second annual community Easter celebration is free and open to everyone. This year, volunteers scaled up from last year’s well-attended operation and stuffed over 4,000 eggs for the event.
“Every year we try to learn from our community, what people need and what the scope is and then do better the next year,” said Chamber President Abby Boyd. “That’s what we’re doing this year. We’re trying to make sure everybody has a lot of fun and leaves with a happy memory.”
This year, there will be Easter egg hunts by age group, starting with children 7 years and younger at 11:30 a.m., followed by children 8 years and older at noon. A late hunt for everyone will take place at 12:30 p.m.
There will also be games and a cake walk, and Tara Salgado will be selling brisket sandwiches, fried oreos and drinks. Boyd said while the courthouse lawn, which hosted last year’s event, is a nice, central venue, they were looking forward to what Coffield Park had to offer.
“Because it’s specifically for kids, [we thought] having access to a playground and being off the street in a park setting would be a better venue. We just want everybody to be able to fully enjoy their afternoon together,” said Boyd.
The Marfa Chamber is looking for volunteers to help with Sunday’s Easter egg hunt, to hide eggs and more. Email marfachamberofcommerce@gmail.com for more information.
