Regional Track Bound
The Marfa Shorthorns have 10 athletes heading to the regional track meet in San Angelo, Texas, next week. The team had a great showing at the Rankin area meet with the following athletes putting forth a tremendous performance.
Girls:
Ummi Chanez – 3200 1st place, 1600 1st place, 4×400 2nd place
Ava Flores – 4×100 4th place, 4×200 1st place, 4×400 2nd place
Maryfer Martinez – 4×100 4th place, 4×200 1st place
Raven Martinez – 4×100 4th place, 4×200 1st place
Lesly Torres Triple – Jump 4th place, 100m 3rd place, 4×100 4th place, 4×200 3rd place
Emily Hernandez – 4×400 2nd place
Aundrea Garcia – 800m 2nd place, 4×400 2nd place
Fernanda Rivera – 100m hurdles 3rd place
Boys:
Derick Campos – 400m dash 4th place
Nathan Peña – shot put 4th place
Marfa Softball is playoff bound!
The Marfa Lady Shorthorns will enter the UIL State Playoffs next week as they take on Santa Anna High School in Ozona, Texas, for the bi-district playoff game. The game is set for 4:30 p.m.
Girls Regional Golf Tournament Results
The girls golf team advanced to the regional tournament this week with the group going in as the 2023 district champions after last week’s district tournament. The team was led by senior Alexis Gonzales (district champion and 2022 state qualifier) and teammates Loretta Rivera, Maryfer Martinez, Raven Martinez and Ava Flores. After the two-day tournament, the team ended with a total team score of 465 in round 1 and 456 in round 2. Head Coach Curtis Pittman stated the team saw several girls hit personal best scores at regionals, which is a good sign heading into next year.
