PRESIDIO — The Blue Devils traveled to Denver City last Friday to compete in the area track and field meet. Nine individual students and one relay team attended, and four will advance to the regional meet.
For the Lady Blue Devils, Alexa Samaniego qualified for the area meet in the 400m dash. Liyah Reyna qualified in the 800m event and Gabriela Armendariz qualified in high jump.
For the boys’ events, Aldo Cortez qualified with a top-four finish in the 300m hurdles and Jesus Galindo qualified in shot put. Oliver Valenzuela qualified in high jump and Santiago Baeza qualified in long jump, triple jump and high jump. Eddie Flores qualified in both the 800m run and 400m dash and the 400m relay team advanced with a second place finish.
At the area meet, four students will advance to regionals: Santiago Baeza, who placed first in high jump; Oliver Valenzuela, who placed fourth in high jump; Eddie Flores, who placed second in the 800m run and fourth in the 400m dash. Liyah Reyna will compete in the girls’ 400m dash.
There will be a send-off pep rally for the students advancing to regionals at 8:45 on Thursday morning at Presidio High School.
