Presidio Lady Devils varsity softball wins against Muleshoe for bi-district champion title

PRESIDIO — Dafny Moreno would not be denied at the plate on Friday, picking up four hits and leading Presidio Lady Devils Varsity to a 14-2 win over Muleshoe. Moreno singled in the second, singled in the fourth, doubled in the sixth, and doubled in the seventh.

Presidio Lady Devils Varsity secured the victory thanks to ten runs in the seventh inning. Presidio Lady Devils Varsity big bats were led by Moreno, Neila Aviles, Natalia Medrano, Natalia Sanchez, Ilianna Morales, and Maxine A Anaya, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Presidio Lady Devils Varsity got things started in the second inning when Yareli Aviles grounded out, scoring one run.

Muleshoe evened things up at one in the bottom of the third inning. A Estrada drew a walk, scoring one run.

Presidio Lady Devils Varsity pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning. In the fourth Moreno singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Presidio Lady Devils Varsity notched ten runs in the seventh inning. Presidio Lady Devils Varsity batters contributing to the big inning included Moreno, Aviles, Medrano, Sanchez, Morales, and Anaya, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Valerie Armendariz led things off in the pitcher’s circle for Presidio Lady Devils Varsity. The lefty went seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out 11.

A Agundis was in the circle for Muleshoe. The hurler went six and a third innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking one. T Dominguez and A Melton entered the game as relief, throwing one-third of an inning and one-third of an inning respectively.

Presidio Lady Devils Varsity hit one home run on the day. Jaylene Loera went deep in the sixth inning.

Presidio Lady Devils Varsity tallied 14 hits in the game. Moreno, Anaya, and Loera all managed multiple hits for Presidio Lady Devils Varsity. Moreno went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Presidio Lady Devils Varsity in hits.

On Friday May 5, 2023 the Lady Blue Devils will play at Greenwood against Amarillo River Road at 8 p.m. for the area title. A send off parade will be hosted Friday at 11:30 a.m. starting from the high school.
