ALPINE — Kerry Awn Fitzgerald, a lifelong devotee of the Big Bend, recently became an Alpine resident. Fitzgerald is a phenomenal artist, cartoonist, actor, muralist, comedian and musician. He was inducted into the Austin Arts Hall of Fame and has been recognized by the City of Austin and the State of Texas for his contributions to the arts. He was voted Austin’s funniest person 10 years running by the Austin Chronicle.
Fitzgerald has contributed four murals to downtown Alpine during the last few years: the train mural on the caboose in Railroad Park, the Desert Shaman mural on the Alpine Studio/Murphy Street, and the Alpine Farmers Market mural. He has now contributed a Big Bend mural in the Alpine Arts Alley between Holland Ave/Avenue A and 5th/6th streets. This most recent mural measures 12 feet by 12 feet and was installed over Memorial Day weekend. The Alpine Alley Art Project is one block long and home to 29 murals/works of art, funded and executed by dedicated Alpine artists/citizens.
