Presidio library kicks off holiday season

PRESIDIO — The holiday season is in full swing at the Presidio Public Library, where community volunteers are hoping to make the coming weeks a little more festive for local kids. All are welcome to participate in fun scheduled activities and opportunities to donate to those less fortunate.

Giving Tree

This year will mark the Giving Tree’s third appearance at the library. The toy donation drive — a collaboration with Guadalupe Carerra of the Children’s Advocacy Center of the Big Bend — invites anyone who wants to participate to choose an ornament from the “Giving Tree,” marked with a child’s name and age.

Giving Tree toys go to needy families in the community who might not have much to put under their own trees at home. Those interested in the program can visit the library during regular hours until December 15 to choose a child — though the program tends to fill up ahead of schedule.

Cookies with Santa

Next Wednesday, December 6, children of all ages can visit the library for a special holiday storytime, featuring a reading of Twas the Night Before Christmas. Afterward, attendees can decorate sugar cookies provided free of charge by the library.

The Presidio Public Library is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 432 229 3317.
