ALPINE — The 80th Annual Big Bend Livestock Show takes place this weekend from Thursday, January 11, to Saturday, January 13, in Alpine. The tri-county showcase features students from Brewster, Jeff Davis and Presidio counties. 

Weigh-ins for hogs, lambs and goats will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Alpine FFA Agricultural Barn in west Alpine. Steer weigh-ins will occur from 4 to 4:30 p.m. at the Hill Top pens. 

The livestock show officially kicks off the following day, Friday, with a 9 a.m. start at the Alpine ISD Ag Barn. The day begins with the lamb show, followed by the goat show then the steer show. The horse show begins at the Sul Ross SALE Arena at 5:30 p.m. 

Saturday will include a swine show, starting at 9 a.m. at the AISD Ag Barn, followed by a new event — the rabbit show. The livestock show concludes with awards and sales at the Alpine Civic Center at 6 p.m. The awards program, which will begin at 6:30 p.m., includes the presentation of Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Buckles, Presentation of Showmanship Buckles, Honoree recognitions and Senior recognitions. The auction begins at 7 p.m. Rusty Mertink will be returning as auctioneer again this year.

A concession stand will be open starting at 7 a.m. Friday and Saturday mornings. The menu includes breakfast burritos, donuts, hot chocolate, camp coffee, soft drinks and water. Saturday lunch will be cabrito, brisket and pulled pork burritos.
