Volunteer with READ MARFA!

MARFA -– READ MARFA, the volunteer read-aloud program at Marfa Elementary School, is back and looking for volunteers.

Founded in 2016 by Ann Marie Nafziger, the program will return to Marfa ISD in late January, serving more students and including more volunteers from the community.

READ MARFA connects adult volunteers with the school, promotes reading as a fun and enjoyable activity, and assists Marfa ISD in their goal to improve student reading and listening skills. It’s also a great way to work together to support teachers and students.

Participating volunteers commit to spending a half hour once per week for six weeks, reading aloud to an assigned group of Marfa Elementary students during their school day. Being read to makes a big difference for kids who are learning to read themselves.

The spring session will run from January 22 to March 1. If you’d like to participate as a reading volunteer, or for more information, contact Marfa Public Library librarian Jasmin Pineda at [email protected].
