Marfa High School basketball team’s season ends with area championship loss
Marfa’s basketball season concluded last Friday with a tough defeat to Robert Lee in the area championship. Despite a strong effort, Marfa’s squad faced challenges in matching up with Robert Lee’s larger roster, ultimately resulting in a 51-32 loss.
Leading the scoring for Marfa were Dustin Martinez with 13 points, Zach Wilson with 6 points, Marco Ruiz with 3 points and Derick Campos with 2 points. The loss marks the end of an impressive season for the Horns with a 2023-2024 district title and a bi-district championship. The program bids farewell to seniors Luis Solis, Dustin Martinez, Marco Ruiz and Zach Wilson.

Marfa powerlifters advance to regional meet after recent last chance qualifying meets in Wink and Pecos
Annalise Jack Marquez is currently ranked number 3 in Region 1, Division 3 (1A,2A,3A) and is ranked number 6 in State All Regions, Division 3 (1A,2A,3A). Marquez will compete at the regional powerlifting meet in Colorado City, Texas, on Friday.
Diego Jurado, 275 weight class, is currently ranked number 5 in Region 1, Division 4 and is ranked number 53 in State All Regions, Division 4. Jaidan Villa, 275 weight class, is currently ranked number 10 in Region 1, Division 4 and is ranked number 66 in State All Regions, Division 4. Jurado and Villa will compete at the regional powerlifting meet in Brownfield, Texas, on March 7.
