Museum Musings

By Pat Godbold

President, Marfa Presidio County Museum

Friday was a big day. Like at least two tons. If you saw the actions of a crew of skilled men, a winch truck, another bin truck, plus pickup trucks across front the post office Friday morning and wondered what was going on. That was the moving day for the museum’s latest acquisition, a printing press. Actually the printing press was given to the museum about a year ago. This printing press was not the first New Era press, according to Mr. Pat Ryan. This press was installed about 1918.

Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hadsell, help with a smile and know how, the Rio Grande Electric trucks and talented crew, the beautiful old press was moved to the museum. It still

isn’t housed but we are working on that problem.

Marfa Junior High Junior Historians met last Friday for their monthly meeting. Plans for a Held trip were discussed and making of a display about area ranch women for the Marfa Museum was talked about.
Mrs. R.H. Godbold, cosponsor, attended the meeting and showed a scrapbook and newspaper the museum had just acquired. She also told of moving the old printing press that day from The Big Bend Sentinel office to the museum. Twenty students and Mrs. Quick, co-sponsor, attended the meeting.
