AUSTIN — RJ Myers — son of Bernice Vasquez of Marfa, grandson to Emma and Johnny Vasquez also of Marfa, and brother of Kedrian Myers — finished in the top 15 at the Clyde Littlefield Relays in Austin, Texas, on March 30. Myers competed in the shot put event against some of the best throwers in the nation. He finished 12th overall, with his last throw being his best throw and a personal record at a meet of 53’ ¾”. On April 3, Myers was crowned district champ and advanced to the area meet held on April 11 where he won first place with a personal record best of 54’ 2 ¼”. He is advancing to regionals in Seguin on April 19.
Last year Myers made it to the UIL state track meet and he is working towards that goal again this year. Myers is a junior at Rice CISD in Altair, Texas.
