Juan Jose Tafoya — wanted for allegedly shooting more than one shot at a pickup truck with occupants on Tuesday in Alpine — surrendered to U.S. marshals today with the assistance of an attorney, according to Alpine Police Chief Darrell Losoya. As of Monday afternoon, he was being held in the Brewster County Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a $20,000 bond. Tafoya, 30, of Alpine, allegedly opened fire on the truck in the 1100 block of North 9th Street just after 1 p.m. Tuesday, which initiated a brief lockdown of Alpine ISD schools.
This story was updated Monday to add the criminal charges and bond amount.
