David Thomas Chavez, age 77, peacefully entered eternal rest surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at William Beaumont Hospital in El Paso, Texas. Dave was born in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, and as a young boy, after his father’s passing, his mother moved the family to Kane, Pennsylvania.
Dave loved to visit Kane every year and reminisce on his time there. He graduated from Kane High School and later received his bachelor’s degree from Utah State University in Logan, Utah, and his master’s degree at Governors State University in University Park, Illinois.
He was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and friend. Dave was a
proud Marine who served in Vietnam and later medically retired at the rank of first lieutenant. Dave demonstrated exceptional dedication and bravery not only in his military career, but throughout his life. Dave earned many accolades while serving and will forever be remembered for his loyalty and service to our country. Dave served as city and county manager in various cities for many years.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Desiderio Chavez and Mary Jane Cadden Chavez. He is survived: by his wife, Consuelo R. Chavez; children Mary E. Chavez, Joe Chavez (Martha), Jimmy Chavez (Christine) and Robert Lee Nunez (Yohanna); his siblings, Rose Bundy, Carmen Swaroop, James Chavez, Larry Chavez, Robert Chavez; as well as three grandchildren.
A visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Home-West, with a Rosary commenced at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass was held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (9025 Diana Dr.) in El Paso with Father John Paul Madanu officiating. A graveside service followed at 1 p.m. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services were entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West, El Paso, Texas.
