I’m sure there are a lot of people in Fort Davis who would get excited about the concept of a constitutional sheriff (as reported in your May 4th edition). However, for those willing to think it through, you’ll no doubt see the danger of this right-wing, extremist philosophy.
I know a sheriff in a county close to us who supports the constitutional sheriff movement. He told me he has the authority to issue an arrest warrant against the president of the United States if he interprets his actions or policies to be “illegal.”
He told me that he is willing to fly to Washington and put handcuffs on him himself and bring him back here to be jailed! It makes me shudder to think about the power some of these people think they have.

In the May 2, 2024, issue of the BBS, I read the article regarding C. W. Stephens running for sheriff while embracing the “constitutional sheriff movement.”
I’ve never heard of it, but from what I understand Jeff Davis County better “watch out!”
