MARFA — Marfa High School students will perform this year’s one-act play, “Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon,” by D.D. Brooke, for the public on Monday, May 20, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday, May 21, at 6 p.m. at the Marfa ISD Gregg Auditorium. The run time is 40 minutes to an hour.
The play tells the tale of three young people, Arthur, Warren and Junie Moon, who have each been tragically marked in life — one is a paraplegic, one has a neurological disease and the last is disfigured from acid. They decide to pool their meager resources and face the world together to get out of the hospital and have a chance at a normal life. The three main characters are played by Liani Salcido, Luis Solis and Diego Jurado.
“We would like for the parents, families and community to join us for the last performance of this year’s advancing one-act play,” theater teacher Donel Lara said. “Our students have worked hard cutting this full-length play, learning their lines and creating sets, and we would like to share it with everyone.”
Students competed in district and bidistrict UIL one-act play competitions this spring. Tenessa Hinojos, Liani Salcido and Ana Gallegos earned All Star Honorable Mention Cast at the district UIL one-act play competition. Diego Jurado and Luis Solis earned All Star Cast honors and Amaya Gomez earned an All Star Crew award at the district UIL one-act play competition.
