In two recounts for local runoffs held this week, the vote tallies remained the same — with one vote separating the candidates in each race.
The Precinct 1 Presidio County Commissioner Democratic Primary runoff recount took place on Sunday with Dierdre Hisler winning 123-122 over Victor Sanchez. With no Republican challenger in November, Hisler will assume office in January.
In the Jeff Davis County Republican Primary sheriff race, Victor Lopez won over C.W. Stephens 301-300 after a Friday recount. Lopez has no Democratic challenger in the November General Election and thus, will assume his post in January. The results were posted by Jeff Davis County Clerk Jennifer Wright around 5:20 p.m. Friday.
Sheriffs in Jeff Davis County also serve as tax collector/assessor. Lopez currently serves as a Marfa Police Department officer, and Stephens is a Jess Davis County deputy.
